About This Photo:
A dog from Aliy Zirkle's 2005 Iditarod team rests at the checkpoint of Nikolai. Each dog gets a bed of straw when they stop for a layover at a checkpoint, which helps to make them comfortable on their break. In addition, this athlete is sporting wrist wraps, which are used to heal sore wrists. These wraps are only worn during rests, and must be taken off prior to running.
