About This Photo:
Dan MacEachen navigates the treacherous Dalzell Gorge. Dalzell Creek, still flowing in the winter, moves too rapidly in certain places during the winter to freeze up completely. The water level also changes over the course of a winter, leaving ice shelfs of different heights, as shown here. On some years, this is the most challenging section of the Iditarod Trail.
